One tala text secures $2,500 prize

Sometimes it really does take just one text to win.

That’s what Ianeta Ripley found out after winning the Vailima Breweries and Digicel Christmas promotion draw with a simple $1 text.

Ianeta was presented five cases of different flavor Moni, one box of Katia Vodka and two 50 litre kegs (worth $2500) as part of her prize.

Vailima Breweries Business and Development Manager, Seteuati Mau, said the promotion was to lessen the burden families go through when planning parties this festive season.

“So basically the promotion that we’ve done was also done the same day last month,” Mr. Mau said.

“In November we actually put together an idea, why not come up with a giveaway. We understand that Christmas time is a time where everyone is trying to plan parties, so we based this around people who cannot afford to.

“Events like funerals just before Christmas, there are many out there who cannot afford to plan such events, so the management came up with the idea to lessen the burden on those families.

“So it was just $1 tala per text and that makes it easier for people because anyone can top up a phone and send in a text.

“We thought of setting this up with Digicel because our target included people in the rural areas, not the corporate groups.”

Mr. Mau added the promotion was a great success with many people texting in for a chance to win the prize.

“We have run various promotions like this with great success,” he said.

“But when we began this one, we were shocked at how much a hit it was. We saw so many people texting and now the winner doesn’t have to worry about Christmas preparations because for just $1 tala, they have it all covered.

“In summary, we are saying that for $1 tala, you could walk away with $2500 tala worth of products from us.

“That was the whole idea behind it.”

According to Mr. Mau, another part of the promotion’s success was proving that people can really win by sending in a single text message.

“This was our last hoorah for the year and to finish off strong. This is a season of giving so showing love for one another is the heart of our company.

“Out of all the people who texted in, this person only texted in once and won.

“That is the great thing about these promotions because we may find out that that may be all this person can afford. Maybe we are making this person’s Christmas this year.”

And on behalf of the Vailima Breweries team, Mr. Mau wishes the people of Samoa a very Merry Christmas.

“This is us saying thank you to Samoa,” he said. “We want to say thank you to Samoa for another beautiful and active year with us. That’s the mindset we have.

“We as a company do not benefit from this, but as we give to others, we just want to say Merry Christmas.”
