Govt. urges public to remember 911 as new emergency dial

The Office of the Regulator (O.O.T.R.) and Emergency Services Telecommunications Companies, Samoa Fire and Emergency Services Authority, Ministry of Police, National Health Services, and Disaster Management Office have launched the 911 Emergency Number and Call Center.

The new number will officially replace the three old emergency numbers, 994, 995, 996.

All 911 calls will be dispatched through the new Call Centre housed in the Fire and Emergency Services Authority, with dedicated phone lines for emergency made available with the assistance by Bluesky Samoa Limited and Digicel Samoa Limited.

The purpose of this change to 911 includes: 

• to eliminate the confusion of what appropriate number to call for any particular emergency 

• to expedite response by emergency services, as well as to minimise

• negative effects and to save lives.

Prime Minister Tuilaepa Dr. Sa’ilele Malielegaoi, launched the new number and made the first official 911 call.
