Ending violence against women and promoting gender equality by engaging with men and boys is the goal of the ‘Break the Cycle of Violence’ meeting.

Hosted by the Samoa Victim Support Group Juniors, it is being held at Travelers Point at Malifa.

SVSG Juniors’ vice president, Franziska Sione highlighted the importance of involving men and boys when working against violence against women.

“Because most people say and believe that violence against women is the result of men not valuing the rights of women or even recognize the importance of gender equality,” he said.

“It birthed the idea to have men more engaged, to have men advocate against the violence against women, and be the forefront of this advocacy work against the issue.”

“Maybe when other men and boys see the work done against this issue is led by men, [hopefully] it would have a big impact, making them want to change.”

SVSG President, Siliniu Lina Chang, emphasized the significance of this meeting by addressing the essence of the meeting to SVSG as they are always looking for ways to further improve their work in communities.

“The magnitude of the work we do is so big that when we get to participate in meetings like these, we treasure every information we get for further improvements.”

“Although we’ve been operating and saving lives for more than ten years, but we still consider ourselves being at infancy level because there is still so much to learn and so much work needs to be done.”
