Their Sevens team couldn’t quite do it last week but Apia was not about to let a second chance of claiming a piece of 2018 Marist history go.

The Apia Barracudas has claimed the Marist Sports Week Rugby League Nines title with a 12-8 victory in wet conditions at Marist Lotopa.

The following about the final is from the Marist Media:

What a final! In a match that could have gone either way, Apia Barracuda have come out victorious winning the grand final match against Marist Saints, 12 points to 8.

Despite the conditions both teams came out firing with unforced errors at a minimum.

When the first whistle sounded, the heavens opened up sending spectators running for shelter under the eaves of the club house.

Crammed together shoulder to shoulder, spectators supporting all teams during the day, were kept on the edge of their seats with action taking place at both ends of the field.

Even in this weather both teams managed to cross the try line twice and the difference for todays match sealed with two successful conversions.

For spectators and lovers of the game, each would have left the final game with a sense of pride.

What a fine display of athleticism and sportsmanship put out there this afternoon, Apia have been crowned champions, but both teams represented the sport they love with true professionalism. What a game.”
