The Samoa Meteorology Division hosted a Career Day yesterday to mark World Meteorological Day at their office in Mulinu’u.

More than 50 students and teachers from various schools in Apia and invited guests attended.

The open day is an opportunity for students to learn as much as they can from those who are experts in the weather division.

In Samoa, the celebration of the global theme, “Weather Ready-Climate Smart” was displayed through presentations on weather, climate, ozone sections and geo-science such as earthquake and tsunamis, earth drilling, geomagnetism, astronomy and oceanography.

It was followed by a study tour and discussions between staff and students.

Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment C.E.O., Ulu Bismark Crawley acknowledged the support from the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Program (S.P.R.E.P.) in supporting the Meteorological Division Career Day.

Ulu emphasized on the significance of the meteorological services and the importance for students to consider this field in their studies.

“Building the capacity in the work place is critical and important for a small and remote country like us, and state-of-the-art development in communications and technology brings the world much closer to Samoa’s meteorological, geo-science and ozone communities,” he said.
