Man drowns in Savai’i, mother found dead

A 24-year-old man from Samalaeulu has drowned in Savai’i.

Confirmed by the Police media officer, Su’a Muliaga Tiumalu, the incident was reported to the Fagamalo Police post last week.

“We are investigating the matter at this stage,” Su’a said.

“From what we have been told, the deceased man went to with other young men of his village to dispose animal waste in the ocean.

“That’s when he fell into the ocean and drowned.” 

He said the body of the deceased is at the morgue at Tuasivi and they are still waiting for the coroner’s approval for his body to be released for burial.

In other matters, the Police are investigating the death of a 31-year-old father last week. 

Su’a said the doctor found scratches on his neck and both the hospital and police suspect that the deceased man might have committed suicide. 

In another matter, the Police are investigating the death of a 40-year-old mother who was found dead by her family on her bed.

“We are looking at how she died,” he said. 

“So far there are signs of foul play but we still have to investigate.”
