The Methodist Church at Salepoua’e Saleimoa celebrated 70 years since the church was established yesterday.

The church was founded in 1947 by eight members, including Pula Esau, Malaeoaitu Uale, Fa’amau, Tima, Tulaga, Alesana, Leni and Fetala’i.

Malaeoaitu Fatu Pula told the Sunday Samoan that the church has come a long way.

“The establishment of the church was not easy,” he told the Sunday Samoan.

“There were some issues within the land by some members of the family but eventually they had agreed to have the church built here.

“The late Pula Esau gave some part of his land to the church to be built on.

“However some members of the family did not agree with it.

“From eight family members that started the church and fast forward to 70 years later the church has grown both spiritually and physically and now there are ten families in the church.

But even though the church was established we held services in our family home until 1995 that’s when the church building was built.

“So today we celebrate 70 years and also we commemorate this event with a memorial stone that is in front of the church.

“It is to remember all those who started the church and remembering all the hard work they had gone through to ensure the church will grow.”
