The Toa Samoa team for the Rugby League World Cup received a rousing farewell at Faleolo International Airport on Saturday.

It was an emotional send off after the players spent a week in Samoa to gear up for the Cup, which kicks off this Saturday against the Kiwis.

Senior player, Sam Tagataese, said they had thoroughly enjoyed their time in Samoa.

“It was a great week for the boys not only to gel together last bits and pieces of our preparations but also to feel and experience the Samoan culture,” he said.

“Another highlight of the trip was receiving the blessings from the nation for the tournament.”

On the training side, the heat has been good for the team, said Tagataese.

On Saturday, families and supporters of the Toa Samoa showed up to the Faleolo International airport to see off their team.

The Toa will open their campaign this Saturday against the Kiwis at Mt. Smart Stadium followed by Mate Ma’a Tonga at Hamilton Stadium on 4 November 2017.

The Toa Samoa will play against their only game in Australia against the Bravehearts from Scotland for their last pool match encounter.

Tagataese and the rest of the Toa Samoa call on the country’s prayers and support for the next few weeks.
