Returnees push good choices to youth

A proactive approach at the Samoa Charitable  Returnees Trust is ongoing, according to Magele Vernon MacKenzie.  “We remain relevant and active through good old fashioned hard work, resourcefulness and thinking ‘outside the box’.”

The Returnees Against Violence campaign works in parallel with their other initiatives where members volunteer to share their own life experiences, lessons learnt while in prison, and the impacts of their offending on their families.  The Returnees through their testimonials encourage the youth to stay in schools and make good choices.

This is part and parcel of their own rehabilitation and resettlement back into society.

On the 20th of April the target audience was young men since the interschool fighting is definitely part of a wider issue of violence in Samoa.

Frederick Douglas said it best “It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.”
