Leonē Bridge construction underway

The government has finally given the go-ahead for the reconstruction of the Leone bridge after a long wait of four years for the residents who live in the area.

Prime Minister, Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi confirmed this during his Keynote Address at the Vaitele Road opening last week.

The bridge was deemed unsafe for pedestrians and vehicles following Cyclone Evan in 2012.

But it wasn’t until May this year that the government awarded the rebuilding of the bridge to the China Railway First Group, Fiji Co. Ltd after calling for tenders.

Four companies submitted bids.
