Two months after parking meters were installed in different parts of the town area, the Land Transport Authority is yet to get them operational.

There have been no updates from the L.T.A. management after the meters were installed in August this year. 

The L.T.A. Chief Executive Officer, Galumalemana Titi Tutuvanu-Schwalger, has not responded to emails seeking her comments on the issue.

Speaking during a press conference in August, Galumalemana announced that eight parking meters were set up in front of the ANZ Bank and the NPF Plaza, and will charge fees ranging from $1 Tala for the first 15 minutes to $4 Tala for an hour of parking. 

The parking meters were supposed to be used by motorists last month, but the L.T.A. advised in a social media post that the commencement date has been deferred indefinitely.

“The public is hereby advised that the Parking Meters will not be effective Saturday, September 1, 2018. The exact commencement date will be advised later by the Authority.” 

It is not known how much public funding the Government expended on this particular project. The L.T.A. sees the parking meters as another form of revenue for them with portions going towards funding the Government’s road maintenance program.
