B.B.E. Vaiala is currently the biggest powerhouse rugby team in Samoa.

“Blackie”, as they so commonly chant at games, is a common fixture in final matches of any domestic tournament.

The team is so fluid and talented that they can easily transition from dominating the sevens arena to the fifteens with ease.

Recently, the team began their campaign in fifteens arena by annihilating Toaula in a fight for the shield with a final score of 50-17.

As Vaiala continues to dominate the rugby scene, it has many avid rugby fanatics wondering, what’s the secret to their success?

The Man behind the machine, Head Coach of the B.B.E. Vaiala Team, Rudy Leavasa shared the “magic” behind the team’s continued success.

Mr. Leavasa says it’s just simple: turn up to practice and train hard.

He told the Samoa Observer, “We have a culture in our team. Most of the boys really train hard when it comes to training at our field.  That’s the secret.”

Vaiala is renowned for turning out a number of rugby stars such as Manu Samoa’s Patrick Fa’apale, Alatasi Tupou, Lester Sefo and more national representatives who’ve donned the black jersey one time or another.

Mr. Leavasa states that having players who’ve tasted life on the international rugby stage is also a catalyst for success.

He said, “The more experience they get, they bring it back to the club.  They always try to make themselves available to go for the National Teams.”

Lastly, Mr. Leavasa credits the adamant support of their sponsor, Betham Brothers Enterprises (B.B.E.) for always backing them both physically and financially.
