Cashless at the New Zealand High Com

Dear Editor,

As a proud Kiwi, I am so, so saddened by our High Commission Office in Apia’s decision to go cashless as reported by Samoa Observer this week.

Tell that to a Samoa from the remote villages like me and I’ll be jumping up and down in joy thinking cashless means no money required it’s a free service.

But I can smell what the High Commission is cookin’.

It is going to hire more staff to handle long cues of Samoa people as they are arguing for the interpretation of cashless in the Samoa perspective.

Another obvious predicament I can see faced by the Kiwi High Commission is the hiring of local staff.

Them workers in Samoa would definitely be staying away from applying for a job at the New Zealand High Commission as the norm being confirmed by one Cabinet Minister; you cannot tip from an EFTPOS machine.

Come on Your Excellency High Commissioner Nicholson, there is no need to be so, so cruel to the Samoa people.

We know no bank card, or a Credit card; just a mere deck of card we use to play suipi and poker with.

EFTPOS! What’s that?

Just a thought.
