The driver of a bus that killed a 15-year-old boy last Friday has been charged with negligence driving causing death.

The Ministry of Police confirmed this yesterday.

“The incident occurred at around 7pm to 8pm on Friday night,” the Police said in a statement.

“The circumstances revealed that the two boys ages 15 and 16 were double riding a bicycle and another 20-year-old male on a separate bicycle were playing on the road."

“As a result, the two boys bicycle was accidentally veered towards an oncoming bus on the opposite side which caused the accident."

“The 15-year-old died at the scene but the 16-year-old sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Leulumoega Hospital and later transferred to the Moto’otua hospital for further treatment.”

The bus driver will appear in Court on 16 October.

On Sunday, a family member told the Samoa Observer:

“They were doubling on the bike when it happened. When they passed by some young people, one of them who was standing on the side of the road pushed the bike onto the road."

“They fell on the road and at that time, a bus got to where the kids fell. The bus driver did not know and he hit them.”

The relative said the older of the siblings died instantly while the young one is fighting for his life at the hospital.
