The real issues
Dear Editor
Re: Non believer
The various failures of Polynesian airlines over the years is not due to corruption and poor credit policies although these issues didn’t help.
No the real issue is the well-known fact that in airline operations in general especially if your home base is quite isolated is that the reliability of your schedule, and therefore the commercial success of your airline rests on having back capability for when aircraft are grounded from time to time due to mechanical issues.
These are a fact of life.
Samoa Airways, with just the one plane is doomed to repeat this problem for sure. The fact that the 737 is on a wet lease is also an issue.
The costs of engaging European pilots is very high and this policy should be questioned.
