A young mother of 28 has lodged a complaint to the Ministry of Police of the sexual abuse of her four year old daughter by a 27-year-old male.

This was confirmed by the police media officer Maotaoalii Kaioneta Kitiona yesterday during their press conference.

He said the incident occurred on the 20th May 2016 and was reported from Savaii.

Maotaoalii did not disclose any information about the accused that would reveal the identity of the little girl.

He also said the accused is not related to the complainant and her daughter.

Two rapes cases were also reported to the Ministry on Wednesday 18th May 2016.

Maotaoalii said the first incident was a complaint from an 18 year old victim against her brother-in-law.

The incident occurred on the 1st January 2016.

The accused is charged with rape together while his wife, who is the victim’s sister is a party to the offence.

Both are scheduled to appear on the 6th June 2016 for mention.

According to Maotaoalii, the accused’s wife knew about what happened and failed to report the incident, therefore she is a party to the offence.

Another report of rape is alleged to have occurred in August 2015.

According to Maotaoalii, the victim is a 15 year old girl who filed her complaint against her step father who is 27 years of age.

The accused is in police custody and will appear in Court on the 6th June 2016 for first mention.

As to why it took so long for the victims to file these incidents, Maotaoalii said there are many reasons why these victims did not report the incidents straight away.

He said that some were under threat and they were afraid of other people knowing what had happened.
