A prominent businessman, Ututa’aloga Charlie Ulia, denied charges against him in the District Court yesterday.

The Owner of Ulia Construction Company Ltd. appeared before Judge Vaepule Vaemoa Vaai to face three charges.

The Prosecutor and the lawyer representing the National Prosecution Office, Iliganoa Atoa, confirmed that the defendant faces two charges of assault and one charge of uttering insulting words.

The charges against Ututa’aloga stemmed from an incident at Afega on 28 June 2016 where he allegedly assaulted two chiefs of Afega, Fata Pemane Seuseu and Ulufale Seuseu Fata Pita Fa’alogo.

In Court yesterday, Ututa’aloga rejected the allegations.

He told the Court that the alleged incident occurred on the day when officials from the Land and Titles Court were scheduled to visit a piece of land that belongs to him.

He said he found Fata Pemane and Ulufale Seuseu trespassing on his land.

“I have also lodged a complaint against the complainant of this matter for trespassing,” Ututa’aloga told the Court.

In denying the allegations, Ututa’aloga said he thought the complainants would withdraw their complaint.

Judge Vaepule has adjourned the matter for hearing on 16 September 2016.
