Vesi Afamasaga, 20, of Tuanai, is part of a problematic statistic for Samoa.

He is among the thousands of young people who are unemployed and are actively seeking work.

“To be honest, I wasn’t a good kid but I am willing to try my best to make some changes,” he said.

“I have never been employed in my entire life. In fact; I rely on my parents and siblings who are in the work force for everything I need and want.”

“I feel so useless and it’s about time to make a change.”

The 20-year-old said he needs to change his focus.

“Being the youngest and the only unemployed member in the family, I feel so hopeless,” he said.

“Mind you, it’s no one else’s fault but mine alone.”

“I made wrong choices and it is my responsibility to fix it.”

Vesi believes this is his year.

“The first step of changes I want to make in my life is to look for a job.”

“A job will help me greatly, not only to contribute to the welfare of my family but to support them with our everyday necessities.”

Vesi added that the hardship of getting a job these days is because everything is now based on qualifications.

“Most work places require people with qualifications and experiences,” he said. “I don’t have qualifications but I am willing to learn.”

He said he is willing to take up any job there is.

“At this stage, I don’t care what kind of job I will get. A job is a job.”

“I am an honest person and active. I’m young and I can learn very quickly.”
