The President of the Samoa Cancer Society, Lauaki Jason Annandale, accepted a $3,000 donation from the Liaifaiva Malofie group on Wednesday.

The money was collected from the one-day Pinktober billiard 9-ball charity tournament hosted by Liaifaiva Malofie group in support of cancer awareness.

The tournament was held last weekend at the Api Sa o Liaifaiva at Aai o Niue.

President Liaifaiva Malofie, Fuata Isaia, said they were a group of tattooed men and women who were united through their passion and love for the traditional tattoo, not only what it stood for but its importance in our society.

Traditional tattooists, Tufuga Liaifaiva Imo Levi, said this would be an annual event and for this year’s fundraising, their first event, all proceeds would be contributed to the Samoa Cancer Society.

“The entire tournament operated on donations by members of the Liaifaiva Malofie. There were two categories, the singles and doubles.

There were 16 teams and 16 individuals for the singles.

Fuata told the Samoa Observer that although they had been tattooed by different tufuga, they wanted to bridge the gap and work alongside each other for a greater cause.

“This is our first fundraiser and we look forward to doing more events for our community.”
