For New Zealander Cameron Duncan, Samoa is stunning as it is and it is one reason why he enjoyed his trip to the island paradise.

It is the raw and untouched part of Samoa that makes the experience of visiting the island nation all the more worthwhile, and he wishes things could stay that way. 

The recent migration of the Chinese people to different parts of the region has not gone unnoticed. 

“Chinese are getting in to the Pacific region as well as in New Zealand. I hope it’s not getting much further as when I come here I want to experience the local works, culture and people.

“Don’t change anything. Don’t make a highway from the airport to Apia, the trip from the airport was stunning, it was slow as it is and you can see everything, how people live. It is beautiful,” he said.

Mr Duncan sees tourism as a solution to maintaining and growing the business in Samoa, that is business owners can offer different types of accommodation rather than building more resorts. 

“I would enjoy coming here to experience the Fales, a homestay or a sort of bed and breakfast or Air BnB, which would contribute to the local families and at the same time sustains the tourism,” he added. 

The Warkworth resident from New Zealand’s North Island and his wife travelled to Samoa together to enjoy the weather and relax. They are at the Taumeasina Island Resort.  

“It is amazing here, I am a musician I’ve always loved the Polynesian simple three chords it’s just nice. It’s been beautiful this morning at breakfast with the harmonies and the food was stunning especially the fruits, the passion fruit was the best I had in my life,” he added.

They plan to visit the Robert Louis Stevenson Museum before they leave Samoa.

And so long as Samoa retains its natural charm, you can be assured that he will return.
