A man from Falelauniu-uta accused of murdering his 14-year-old son has pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.

Afereti Talato Mapusua entered the plea in Court yesterday.

The Chief Justice, His Honour Patu Tiava’asu’e Falefatu Sapolu, presided over the matter. The defendant was represented by lawyer, Alalatoa Rosella Papali’i.

During the proceedings yesterday, the defendant’s wife asked the Court if her husband could be released on bail. But the prosecution objected.

The lawyer standing for the National Prosecution Office (N.P.O) said the defendant should remain in custody until the charges against him are finalised.

Chief Justice Patu adjourned the matter for decision on Thursday.

Mapusua was charged following an incident where he was allegedly “drunk off his face” and he used a machete to beat his son.
