Seeking a water tank

One of the most discussed issues in Samoa is people pleading for a water supply or a tank.

For Pesi Senio, a 38-year-old mother from the village of Siumu, she said their water has been cut off and they haven’t had a water supply of their own since then.

“Our tap water is no more because it was cut off recently. The reason was, our water bill came up to $1,039 and we could not afford to pay it,” she told Village Voice.

As to why her water bill was that amount she said “Well when we moved here two years ago, a lot of the villagers didn’t have water, which was why when they came to ask us to use our water, we allowed them to because we know how it feels to live without water.

“But ever since our water has been cut off, we have been getting water from the inner villages.

“We usually take a taxi to go and fetch it.

“It’s a long way there and back but we need to make sure to always have water because my children are still small, always needing water and food.

“That’s why my husband and I talked and decided to contact the authorities and request a water tank.

“We have five children and three are in school so that’s another thing we have to worry about.

“I worry about my kids’ every day because we don’t really know how every new day is going to turn out.

“We don’t have electricity, so we use solar lights at night time.

“It’s really hard to pay for anything these days for our family because only my husband works and he is a farmer, so he does what any farmer does, sells off crops to get money.”

Mrs. Senio said their plantation is on her mother-in-law’s land, which is just around the corner from where they’re staying.

“Water is what we need most, what my children need most. I mean, what human being doesn’t need water?

“I humbly ask anyone who wants to help us out with a water tank; it would be great to be able to store our own water.”

If you want to help or know of anyone who wants to help Pesi Senio and her family, please contact her at 7245830 or 7629859.
