Samoans with no families in Samoa?

Dear Editor,

Re: Open letter to the S.R.U

A Samoan family having no families in Samoa?

A sure sign of long lost connection with your roots which could have been a lot different outcome with your son had he stayed with families.

You could have done some research and talk to people who have been to Samoa on a similar occasion recently just so you could get an idea of what facilities and its standards, some personal hygiene products for your son to pack and what to expect so you and your son can be well prepared.

But I believe you had no idea whatsoever and you expected the Manager and Coach to babysit your son?

You expected hot water showers in Samoa?

Did you give your son some money for the unexpected?

But hey, who am I kidding, you thought your son would be staying in a 5-star facility with hot water, a fully supplied kitchen with kitchen staff and a 24/7 babysitter?

Arrogant behaviour that we have been seeing a lot lately of typically some Samoans either born overseas or migrated overseas. Samoa is not Brisbane, Australia.

Manu Samoa is not the Wallabies with it’s luxury facilities and everyone at hand to help out.

I really do hope your attack of Mahonri is not based on a personal agenda?

High expectations are always a very high risk emotionally and the impact on a person or some people especially when that expectation wasn’t fulfilled can cause a lot of anger within.

Would you have raised these issues publicly if your son was selected in the final Samoa Under 20 Squad?

You could have written a lot earlier to the Samoa Observer when the issues came up if you were really concerned about the treatment your son was getting in camp.

All the best to your son and your attitude oh and please try and connect with your roots. They need your help with the fa’alavelaves.
