Samoa is an escape from hectic London life for traveller Corinne

The first week of an eight-week stay in Samoa has been a whirlwind of waterfalls, beaches and meeting new people, for Corinne Caesar.

The 21-year-old is from Croydon, England. Having made the tiresome set of flights from Europe to the Pacific, Corinne dived into Samoan life by supporting the Manu Samoa on Friday night at Apia Park.

Despite her new team narrowly missing out on a much-deserved win, she still thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

“I can’t believe I got to watch two international teams play. In the United Kingdom it would be far too expensive. The crowd were amazing, I love the Samoan people. They seem genuinely happy to be there and enjoying life,” she said.

“I don’t usually follow rugby, but I have lots of friends back in England that love it and they were definitely jealous.”

After being plunged into the passionate Samoan crowds, Corinne will be sure to keep up to date with the latest sporting news and wished Manu Samoa good luck for their remaining matches.

This weekend saw Corinne travel to Savai’i and consequently to Afu Aau Waterfall.

“It was just beautiful,” she said.

She continued to drive along the coast to the famous blow holes, and got thoroughly soaked. Having been in England a week ago, she found the whole experience surreal and can’t wait to see what else the islands will produce.

High up in the trees, Corinne added, “The canopy walk was probably the best part, as you could see the whole of Savai’i. It’s so green.”

The amount of rainforest is something that never fails to astonish travellers. She remarked that the untouched environment allowed her to forget her worries and enjoy the island. “It was nice to be stress free and just drive around the island.”

London is one of the most over populated cities in the world.

Savai’i has a population of approximately 45,000. Reflecting on this, Corinne said, “London is so fast paced, and it gets so tiresome because everyone’s there for themselves. It’s all about money. Here it’s more about enjoying yourself, and I think I really needed that break.”

In the next seven weeks, Corinne will be sure to get to know the Islands well, and continue to enjoy her new relaxing life. Hopefully she can take her new attitude and a little piece of Samoa back to London with her.
