Complete communications and entertainment provider, Digicel Tonga Limited, in February this year entered into a Share Purchase Agreement (‘S.P.A’) with the Government of Tonga for the sale of Shares in Tonga Cable Limited (‘T.C.L’), a strategic Government asset.

Today marks the Completion of the S.P.A.

As a result, Government will be able to co-finance alongside the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, the extension of the fibre optic cable to Vava’u and Ha’apai Islands for an improved telecommunication service in both Island groups.

This announcement reinforces Digicel’s objective to increase accessibility to and penetration of communications to Tonga – as well as to deliver the economic and social benefits that communications bring.

Speaking at the announcement Mr. Ben Kealy, C.E.O. of Digicel Tonga said; “We are committed to delivering on our vision of being a total communications and entertainment provider across the region and this investment is a significant step forward  for our customers in Tonga”.
