Nothing is impossible if you work hard for it.

That is the philosophy that drives Falenuu Aukuso every day.

The 32-year-old from Leauvaa is unemployed, but he tries to contribute to his family’s daily survival.

He says working together eases a family’s burden.

Mr. Aukuso is not married; both his parents have passed on so he lives with his niece, his sister and her two children.

“The way I look at it and the situation my family is in, everything is going smoothly and in our favour. I work the land while the other two adults in our house works at Pinati Restaurant,” Mr. Aukuso said.

The Village Voice team met Mr. Aukuso returning from his plantation with his two nephews.

He says it would be good for him to get a job as well, but his family relies on him to look after the house and work their plantation.

Mr. Aukuso says having a small family is an advantage because you don’t really need to spend a lot of money on food.

He says if people do not work, they will not eat and they will continuously to struggle in life, especially with the high cost of living.

“The bible says you reap what you sow and if you do not sweat you will not eat.

“So it is important for people to always work and that is why I choose to work the land.

And I do not want to be lazy because as that will only make me poor,” said Aukuos.
