The Congregational Christian Church of Samoa (C.C.C.S.) at Vailima celebrated the official opening of their pastor’s house yesterday, which cost more than $400,000.

The Church Minister, Reverend Fa’asalafa, said the old residence was not safe, having been through many natural disasters and cyclones.

“The building was old and so we saw the situation of that building and that was the reason why the church decided that it was time to have a new home,” he said.

“Most parts of the old building were damaged by cyclones and I think the last one that the building survived was Cyclone Gita.”

The work started in May.

“So from May until yesterday, the work was done within four months.”

Reverend Fa’asalafa told the gathering that when the project began there was no money.

“We had asked the church for help and then we fundraised. We also loaned from a local bank,” he said.

“We held fundraisers such as tausala night, bingos, cricket tournaments and so forth.

“Today, we are here to celebrate this great milestone.”

Reverend Fa’asalafa said with all the success there were many challenges that they were going through with the project.

“Like anything else there are always challenges,” he said.

“However we made it.

“We acknowledge the support of our church members. We thank you from our hearts.”

Chairman of the Congregational Christian Church of Samoa, Rev. Elder Tautiaga Senara congratulated the Vailima church for the hard work.

“You have worked so hard and today we celebrate,” he said.

The church’s governing body gifted the Vailima parish $20,000.
