An insulting comment

Dear Editor,

I want to thank the Minister of Women, Tolofua Lei’ataua for demanding an apology from the Police Commissioner. I find it odd that someone who became a matai yesterday suddenly thinks he knows all about the fa’asamoa.

As a Samoan – let alone a Samoan matai - I’m insulted by the comment.

Obviously the Commissioner has never sat in village meeting where matai discuss and dialogue over the issues – whatever it is.

That is far from the military style.

I appreciate that Fuiava Keil is trying to clean up the Police. I really do and I think it’s about time that somebody does.

What I don’t appreciate are these sweeping comments about the fa’asamoa when these people don’t understand what on earth they are talking about.

Maybe give the Commissioner a few more years of attending the village meetings and he might have something different to say then.

I remain hopeful.
