Many hands make light work

Changes are inevitable.

Mareta Masa, a 60-year-old mother from the village of Matafa’a, truly believes that the best solution is people working together.

Said Mareta, the real solutions to all the problems we face nowadays is “teamwork.”

“We’ve seen so many changes and so many problems,” said Mareta.

“Especially with our young children. This is sad because we often refer to our children as the future of our families, villages, church and country.

“Back in the days, we never had this many problems because our parents taught us well and they showed us the right way to live our lives.

“The other thing is, mother’s weren’t addicted to playing Bingo like we see nowadays.

“Mothers would rather spend their money and time playing bingo than staying home and looking after their children especially their daughters.

“Back in the days, a mother was usually the last person to sleep at night. She had to make sure that everyone especially her children were all at home and asleep.”

Said Mareta, she is a mother and a grandmother. Her children have their own families now.

“You see, everything begins from home. The parents especially the mother should teach her children and give them the right advice.

“The parents are the first ones to nurture and teach the children about the right way to live their lives.

“If they bring them up the right way, they will never depart from it.”

Mareta then went on to say that many hands make light work.

“I am not saying that I am perfect and that my children are perfect too. You see, we are all responsible for raising our children.

“You have a part to play, I have a part to play, the teachers have their part to play, the church ministers, village councils and others.

“The government is trying so hard through the different Ministries to eliminate all the negative behaviour from our children.

“And most of us think that we should be doing something about it too. We all need to work together in order for us to have a better future.

“Everything is easy when we share the heavy load and burden. The bible says that children are gifts from God.

“Therefore, we need to take good care of them and raise them to be the people they are destined to be.”
