Taumeasina Island Resort celebrated its second year anniversary by throwing a mid-year beer festival featuring Samoa’s local breweries and new kid on the block, Budweiser Beer.

The beer fest was an opportunity for beer companies, Samoa Breweries, Taula Beverages Company Ltd and Budweiser to showcase the other products they offered in the first ever beer fest at Taumeasina.

Samoa Breweries, maker of Vailima beer is celebrating their 40th year in Samoa and representative from the company, Seteuati Mau said: “It is a great opportunity for us to engage with our people and since it’s our 40th year in Samoa. It started with the people and when it comes to events like this, it’s about our people as well. The first factor to it is our people; secondly Taumeasina has always been a good partner with Vailima in terms of what we do together.”

Adding to the beer-scape of Samoa is the American beer brand, Budweiser, which is available in more than 80 countries including Samoa. The beer fest gave the company to showcase their unique qualities in the Samoa beer market, according to their Operations Manager, Faasao Mulivai.

“Budweiser is an American brand that has been around for many years so its overseas beers that we can bring into Samoa. It’s not only American beer but also different varieties, so we are bringing the world to Samoa.

“We are showcasing Shock top, Land shark, Stella Artois, Bud light and of course Budweiser.  We already have this relationship with a lot of resorts and hotels, and so we were invited to join and we were keen to come.”

“We are bringing classic beers. We hope to gain awareness from this festival and to proclaim that we are here to stay in Samoa.”

Mr. Mulivai added they have been in Samoa for four months and they were pleased with the response so far.

“We want a bit of the share of the market of course and even though it is dominated by the local beers, but we are not here to take over, we are here to offer another taste of beer and in our case a classic beer.”

On hand to feature as the main act on Friday night was New Zealand Samoan hip hop artist, Dei Hamo, who took to the stage on the evening.

Food and Beverages manager for Taumeasina Island resort, Bob Michael Pasana said this was a great opportunity for beer companies to promote their products but more importantly bring people together.

“We got lucky due to our Guest artist Dei Hamo who was in Samoa and we took advantage of that.  It is not so much as a celebration for us, but it gives a great opportunity for everyone to come enjoy themselves.

“Usually it doesn’t happen between companies, its either one beer company at an event but this a new thing for us being together with other beer companies.”
