Samoa getaway ideal for family

Laid-back in his sun chair, watching over a rather large group in the pool, you get the idea that Shayde Boyer is the team leader in this circle.

Sure enough he tells Dear Tourist that this is actually a small reunion of sorts.

“We’re here for a family holiday, there’s 12 of us,” he said, “we’ve been to Rarotonga twice before and we just wanted to go a little further out.”

“So far, it’s been amazing, absolutely incredible so far. Having stayed in Rarotonga where everything is spread out and open, it’s nice to come here with the family at Taumeasina because it’s completely safe.”

“It’s a self contained island with no traffic and no noise. The staff are just amazing.”

Trying to rally and organise a large group doesn’t seem that ideal for Shayde who prefers to keep things hassle free.

“To be honest, it’s so hot and because we are not used to it - we just don’t want to do anything but stay near the pool.”

“We haven’t really ventured out of Taumeasina Island except out to Apia city to have a roam so we haven’t tried out any local foods but we did manage to try out the Samoan feast on our first night here so from what we did have, it was nice. I quite liked the taro.”

“I’m not sure if we will get enough time to trek around the island while we are here, especially with kids you can’t really spend all day trekking around. However we are going to walk to the top of the hill to see Robert Louis Stevenson’s grave so that’s as far as our exploring will go today.”

So far, Shayde is impressed with what he’s seen and looks forward to when they go for a bus tour the following day.

“I would recommend Samoa as a holiday destination, it’s been great. So far our only concept of Samoa has been the resort. We are going around the island tomorrow so I’ll get a fair idea of what Samoa has to offer. But I will definitely recommend the resort and the people.”

“The nature of the people is what stands out to me here. People here are relaxed and quite happy. It’s quite good for kiwis because its not a stressful place to come because everyone is super friendly and easy going.”

Has Samoa met their relaxing criteria?

Shayde turns towards their 12 strong group and asks them,

“Hey guys, do we all feel relaxed?”

In one enthusiastic chorus, the family all said: “ Yes!”
