Ministry of Education hosts meetings to attract new teachers

In the pursuit to address the teacher shortage challenge in government schools (primary and colleges) the Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture (M.E.S.C) hosted two meetings last week.

  The first meeting was held in Savai’i on 19 May and the second meeting was held in Upolu on 26 May 2017. 

A total of 85 participants attended the meetings.

The overall objective of these meetings was to attract degree holders to consider the teaching profession as a career pathway. 

The first half of the presentation by the A.C.E.O School of Operations emphasised the importance of ensuring that qualified individuals are posted to schools according to their subjects of expertise, which will strengthen the teaching and learning programnes in schools.

The last half of the presentation by the A.C.E.O of Teacher Development focused on sponsorship opportunities for Degree holders to complete a teaching qualification (Graduate Diploma in Education) to ensure that teaching strategies reflect pedagogies needed to strengthen student centered learning.
