The Ministry of Health has reported that the dengue-like illness case count remains high with twice the average number of cases seen in the previous two weeks.

The latest number was released in a Syndromic Surveillance Report from 22 April to 28 April prepared by the National Health Surveillance.

According to the report a total of 61 cases were reported for the last week with the moving average of 39 and 78 as the threshold.

The Ministry of Health urged the public to heed advice and recommendations on preventative measures such as clean-ups, and removing stagnant water sources around the house that are potential mosquito breeding sites.

The public is also asked to wear appropriate clothing to minimise mosquito bites and use mosquito nets and repellents such as lotion and sprays.

“If you are affected, watch out for severe symptoms and seek medical attention immediately,” the Ministry of Health said.

“Also monitor other people in the household for similar symptoms and present to the hospital for testing and health advice.”

Influenza like illness cases were also reported to have gone below the alert threshold.

The general public is being asked to wear masks, especially when having flu-like symptoms such as a cough and runny nose, practice hand hygiene, and avoid large gatherings without masks.

As for diarrhea, M.O.H. said cases increased in February and is now gradually decreasing since the end of March.
