"In the heart of Samoa, mothers weave the fabric of our future with threads of wisdom, compassion, and resilience," said the Minister for the Ministry of Women, Community, and Social Development, Mulipola Anarosa Ale-Moli'o.

This was a heartfelt tribute to the guiding lights of Samoan society, at the commencement of Mother's Day celebrations in Savai'i this week.

The occasion, which marks the 21st anniversary of Mother's Day as a public holiday in Samoa, resonated with themes of reverence, solidarity, and a call to action for gender equality and women's empowerment.

Mulipola reminded the public about the significance of the day, she highlighted the invaluable contributions of mothers—the silent architects of harmony, safety, and freedom—who play a pivotal role in shaping the nation's future.

Aligned with the Pathway for Development of Samoa (PDS), the celebration underscored the Ministry's commitment to fostering inclusive and sustainable growth under the theme "Solidarity for Gender Equality."

Mulipola emphasised the importance of diversity as a source of strength and unity as she rallied attendees to recognise the quiet strength of mothers in driving towards a future where equality is not just an aspiration but a lived reality.

She also highlighted the vital role women play in nurturing unity, inclusivity, and collaboration within Samoan culture.

Drawing parallels with the art of weaving, a central tradition symbolising cooperation and interdependence,

She also called for the elevation of women in all aspects of life, echoing the vision outlined in the PDS for progress, resilience, harmony, and growth.

The Minister unveiled a heartwarming program designed to promote empowerment and solidarity, including special tributes from children, meaningful dialogues on Economic Empowerment, Leadership, Promoting Safe Spaces, and addressing Gender and Climate Change.

Cultural showcases featuring the artistic prowess of Samoan women through fine mats and Siapo added depth to the commemoration.

With a clear objective to ignite dialogue and action for gender equality, the celebration extended its reach from Savai'i to Upolu, embracing individuals of all ages, genders, and abilities across the islands.

Mulipola concluded by reaffirming that Mother's Day 2024 is not merely a celebration but a solemn pledge to honour the legacy of Samoa's mothers and drive forward initiatives that promote gender equality and women's empowerment.

As the event concluded, the sentiment echoed through Samoa, resonating with the shared aspiration for a more inclusive, resilient, and equitable society—a testament to the solidarity that defines Mother's Day.

The Minister's poignant words, "In the heart of Samoa, mothers weave the fabric of our future with threads of wisdom, compassion, and resilience," encapsulated the spirit of the occasion, serving as a beacon of hope and progress for present and future generations alike.

As Samoa embraces Mother's Day 2024, the message is clear: honoring mothers is not merely an act of gratitude but a commitment to shaping a brighter future where gender equality and women's empowerment reign supreme.
